Fiction Workshop at the Summer Writers Institute

The Fiction workshop for writers whose primary goal is the creation of long or short prose fiction intended for a general or literary audience. The instructor for 2009 was novelist Saher Alam. Click here to see bio.

If you are applying to the Fiction workshop: Enclose your completed Summer Writers Institute application form (available soon), a $35 check for the application fee, and a total of 25 typewritten, hard-copy, double-spaced, and paginated pages of unpublished fiction. If you are a novelist, please submit the first 25 pages of your novel. This material will be read and workshopped by your instructor and class during the first week of the Institute.

  • -Your writing sample should be work in progress -- writings for which you are seeking reader responses and suggestions for improvement.
  • -Checks should be made out to Washington University.
  • -Applications will be accepted until all spaces are filled.
